Affiliate Marketing Articles - 5 Tutorials to Get You Started
Need traffic? Or some general tips? Here are 5 short affiliate marketing articles to get you started.
1. Find a Niche You are Passionate About
The best way to do a good job is to be true to yourself and spend your life doing what you love. It’s true in a 9-to-5 day job and it’s especially true in niche affiliate marketing. By launching a website in an area (niche) that you have a strong interest in you’ll find it easier to work on every day because it holds your attention and enthusiasm. Part of your reward will be the joy of sharing this passion with others. And the other significant reward is an online income. Do what you love doing and the money will follow.

Next in my affiliate marketing articles, see why it’s important to identify a niche that needs the product you intend to sell, and find out why it’s possible to find that niche through keyword research.
2. Research Keywords
People use strings of keywords when searching for what they want. Your job is to write content using these keyword phrases and placing them in strategic locations in your articles. By targeting the special niche words that reflect what your site is about, and finding the long tail keywords that competing affiliate marketers aren’t paying much attention to, you can begin to reel in the visitors and start pre-selling your affiliate products.

3. Write Content that Pre-Sells
What do your visitors need? What are they looking for? How much will they pay for it? While it’s admirable to write articles for a review site that gives free information about products, if the content isn’t priming your visitors to buy, what is the point of your affiliate marketing efforts? In order to successfully pre-sell to a shopper you must do a couple of critical things, such as:
- Be specific as to why this product is the solution to their needs and promote the benefits the consumer will get by using the product
- Compel the shopper to act immediately -- by clicking on the link you provide and sending them directly to the merchant’s product page (not the home page)
You don’t want to just hype a product -- that kind of weak sales technique seldom works. Pre-selling is the art of establishing trust and credibility, and giving the confirmation the buyer is seeking.

4. Monetize the Site
Beyond just adding Adsense code, the easiest way to make money on a website is to add affiliate links. Most people are surprised to learn that their hobby site on dream interpretation or collecting Star Wars figurines could have been making money for them the past ten years. All that original content, tons of articles, a high rank in the search engines -- yet they didn’t know what to do with their website traffic other than chuckle at the growing visitor counter and brag!
Whatever you do, whether your site is a shopping directory, coupon and rebate site, niche site, or any other, it makes sense to diversify your income by tapping into the billion dollar affiliate market. As a general rule, always build full sites (not simple landing pages) that are beneficial to your visitors, and then link from your articles to the product they seek after you’ve done your pre-selling.
You’re in the driver’s seat if you have some traffic already landing on your pages, now take the time to read up on some affiliate marketing articles such as "The Best Affiliate Marketing Programs" and see how to properly monetize your websites.
5. Promote the Site: Link Building Strategies
If you don’t have a 10-year-old website with hundreds of articles, or even if you do, you need to do some promotions to bring in the traffic to start the affiliate marketing income stream flowing. Promoting your site can be as easy as exchanging links with sites similar to yours (although the quality of such links are sometimes questionable), or you can post your site link in your forum signature.
Another idea is to write original material for Article Directories. The theory behind this is that others are allowed to use your article on their site provided they include your link back to your site. As an affiliate marketer you should also take advantage of the rising popularity of Social Media Sites such as
Digg and Reddit. If you’re an excellent writer and offer quirky fresh content, definitely try to get on Fark to get a hyper-blast of traffic to your site. Just hope your server can handle the load!
I hope these brief articles have given you some ideas about getting started in pursuing the affiliate marketing opportunity. Please take the time to review other tutorials and affiliate marketing articles on this site that are more in-depth on these five subjects.
