Ezine Affiliate Marketing - The Money is in the List!

The basis to a successful ezine affiliate marketing campaign is in the opt-in list or subscribers list. It’s like that old saying: “the money is in the list.” But how do you go about building such a list?

If you aren’t familiar yet with what an ezine is, it’s is simply an electronic newsletter that is emailed periodically to your database of subscribers. Since this is a voluntary opt-in list, you aren’t spamming or sending out emails to thousands of unknown or non-existent addresses.

The email recipients have already visited your site and requested to have the information sent to them. This type of targeted audience is a vital component of ezine affiliate marketing. You want to make sure that you keep on topic and not simply stuff your newsletter with rehashed information or make it an obvious sales letter. Also, people do not like long emails so keep your newsletter short and get to the point.

Let’s go over some do’s and don’ts when designing your ezine affiliate marketing campaign:

Do’s:

  • Build your ezine lists using squeeze pages. You can do this more effectively by pitching free offers such as a 5-page report, or anything that can be given away in a downloadable format that requires an email registration.
  • Keep the sign-up or opt-in form brief -- the shorter the better to get the job done.
  • Use an autoresponder with the opt-in form to respond to and verify a newsletter subscription request.
  • In the periodic newsletter or ezine you mail out, include helpful new information in the form of fresh content. At the end of the article, you can recommend the product, service, or solution and give your reasons. You can include ads in your affiliate marketing newsletter -- but don’t over-do it.
  • Sign up with ezine directories and you’ll get even more subscribers to join -- just by listing your subject title and description!

Don’ts:

  • Don’t buy ezine subscriber lists from list building companies. The leads aren’t quality and you’ll just be wasting your money.
  • Never rent or sell the names and addresses on your list. Your subscribers are not expecting to be spammed with a sales letter every time they open your mail. Respect your relationship and only send an article or newsletter when you have something to say.

Feedback is important to any business and ezine affiliate marketing is no exception. You need to know if you are meeting the needs of your audience and if the message you’re trying to deliver is working or not. Encourage feedback and ask specific questions that will help define your email campaign, and then make your adjustments accordingly.

Using ezine affiliate marketing together with your subscriber list is also an effective way to leverage your business. With no cost to you, when the subscribers use their own time and effort to reach out to others by forwarding or passing along your information, you’ll find your website traffic will build at an amazing rate.
