What is Niche Marketing? -- The Fun Path to Online Profits
Every affiliate novice asks “what is niche marketing?” It’s not only one of the most popular and less competitive segments online, it’s the fun path to take if you work within a niche field you know well and enjoy. And, if you choose your area wisely, it can be extremely profitable to corner your little market of the World Wide Web.
Understanding the Term
So what is niche marketing? It’s a small business, outside of the mainstream, that concentrates on one specific, highly targeted segment or product. For example, let’s say you are interested in home security sites. The keyword phrase “home safe” represents a main market returning about 58 million search results. But who needs an expensive wall safe installed? Your site is geared toward selling the household objects like teddy bears and fake soda cans that contain hidden compartments to hide valuables in plain site. Your keywords -- “diversion safe”-- returns just 337,000 results. This is a smaller, more targeted market; a mere slice of the larger market -- a niche, if you will.
The key is to identify the niche and find out if there is a viable market for it before you spend any money or energy creating the website. Even once you build the site, you must then focus on targeting the right keywords to attract the type of buying public who will make your site profitable.
One of the things I stress when you are considering what niche marketing product or service to pursue is that it should be something you have expert knowledge of or that you are passionate about. At the very least, you should know enough about the product to readily endorse it. Or, you can simply follow your passion whether it is kayak touring or gourd carving or collecting vintage guitars.
Where to Get Ideas
It goes without saying that you must pick a niche market that isn’t saturated with marketers yet isn’t so small there’s no “there” there. The best way to get ideas is to brainstorm. To see what we mean check out marketing guru Ken Evoy’s Affiliate Masters Course. It’s a free course that will give you tips on how to tap into your passion and pick just the right theme for your website.
If you don’t have a hobby or passion that is a potential moneymaker, perhaps there’s a topic you would love to study and learn. By setting up a niche website about something you’re highly interested in, it won’t seem like work as you gain knowledge of it along with your readers. That is also covered in Evoy’s affiliate marketing course so be sure to download the 10-day free course now.
Here’s one final tip if you’re pondering what niche marketing idea to explore: Use a keyword research tool such as NicheBOT or Wordtracker and type in a general keyword such as tip or idea and see what comes up. The numerous suggestions returned to you are bound to trigger a brainstorm for you. Just remember to stay clear of mainstream topics and pick a niche you love because people buy online when they are satisfied the seller is trustworthy. With a niche site you’ll build credibility with your visitors and convert them to customers when you convince them of your knowledge, enthusiasm, and sincerity.
